Pomes in a Pail: Music
15. SPECIAL DELIVERY
(Jenny/Mendoza. Singer: Rachel Cerrone)
A true story!
Once upon a suppertime
(Just Mom ’n Dad ’n me)
I asked my hungry parents how
It was I came to be,
And this — a strange and juicy tale! —
My father answered me:
“We wished for a pair of rosy cheeks
Like tomatoes bright and red,
And flaxen hair, like winter wheat
Sprouting from your head,
Two deep and dark mysterious eyes
Black mushrooms growing wild
To see the strange and wondrous world,
That’s what we wished you, child.
And skin as soft as melted cheese
So sweet, our hearts might crumble,
A pinch of peppers, spunk & spice
For our tender little bundle,
And every wish we made, dear child,
Came true — all these and more —
The day you came into our lives,
Delivered special, to our door.”
…As Father finished
And filled his plate
And gobbled hungrily,
I had a sudden vision how
It was I came to be —
My parents ordered…pizza
But the pizza guy brought me!
